The documentary De Mythe van het Meer (The Myth of the Lake) is about diver Rob Bangma. He sets his sights on unraveling the biggest myth among divers in South Holland: the disappearance of a British bomber in the Oostvoornse Meer.
On July 4, 1940, over Rotterdam, a Bristol Blenheim was shot down by the Germans. The plane containing three crew members crashed into what is now the Oostvoornse Meer. In the following days, some wreckage is recovered from the water and two bodies wash ashore. However, part of the cockpit containing the last occupant, the tail gunner, is never found.
Rob once nearly drowned himself and wants to find the English tail gunner, who must still be somewhere at the bottom of the lake. In unraveling this myth, he hopes to give his own life meaning. But the search turns out differently than he expected
